The maker of Malt-O-Meal cereal has issued a product recall. Fearing salmonella contamination, the company is recalling all unsweetened puffed rice and puffed wheat cereals with use by dates from April of this year to March of next year. The cereals are distributed nationally under the Malto-O-Meal brand and private label brands including Food Club, Giant, and Weis. The company says salmonella was detected in a product produced last month, but the situation has been corrected. According to Malt-O-Meal no reports of illness have been linked to the cereal.

Gartner Analysts describe the situation with Microsoft as "untenable" and describing Windows as "collapsing." They go on to say that Microsoft must make radical changes to the operating system or risk becoming a has-been. Among Microsoft's problems is Windows' rapidly-expanding code base, which makes it virtually impossible to quickly craft a new version with meaningful changes. This was proven by the Vista flop and consumers sticking with previous versions of the operating system.

Working a night shift job might make you more likely to die! Or so says researchers linking treatment delays to nighttime patients versus people treated during daytime hours. Another study is linking artificial lights to breast cancer. The WHO may list night shift work as a "probable carcinogen." Night shift work also ties into epidemiological studies of nurses, flight attendants and others who work at night have found breast cancer rates 60 percent above normal.

I just wanted some safe American or European made quality wooden ABC blocks for my child like I once had. Target didn't seem to carry any that were made of wood, although they did have larger plastic blocks. Practically everything at Wal-Mart is made in China. KB Toys recently had to recall the wooden ABC blocks they sell due to lead paint that is hazardous to children, those blocks also made in China. Google returned garbage (as usual). I thought I was out of luck...

The public has been warned by governmental health agencies not to consume two specific lots of Hickory Farms Beef Stick, beef summer sausage, products made in the United States. It is possible that the product contains the bacteria responsible for Botulism in humans. Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by the build-up of toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

iUniverse is a self "on-demand" publishing company which was partially owned by Barns and Noble. Author Solutions Inc., a long time competitor of iUniverse, announced today that they are buying iUniverse. Both companies basically will publish books for individuals that have been turned down by traditional publishers, at the individual's own expense.

Amazon.com announced that it is gearing up to launch an online music download store filled exclusively with DRM-free MP3s later this year. Here is the announcement about the Amazon.com Online Music Store on their web site. Reported to offer millions of songs from 12,000 record labels, EMI included, the as-yet-unnamed store will allow customers to play purchased songs (individual tracks and full albums) on absolutely any DAP or other MP3-supporting device as well as burn the songs to CDs.
